Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of e-mail questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.
Larry: My husband says that NFL players don’t get paid during training camp or the preseason. I have a hard time believing that. Is he right?
Wendy B.

Wendy: They don't get paid that much during those times. NFL players receive a nominal fee for their participation in the offseason conditioning program, minicamp, training camp and preseason games. Their base salaries are then divided over the course of the regular season, which spans 17 weeks.
Larry: I bought a signed Lovie Smith football at a charity auction at a Kellogg school event at the Museum of Science and Industry. It didn’t specify what game it was from, but I noticed that it has a “K” on it and also a “WK-17.” Does that mean it was a kickers ball in the Packers game?
Kris
Kris: That’s exactly what it means. Assuming that ball was from last season, it apparently was used in the Bears’ Week 17 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.
Larry: I was wondering what song the Bears play before kickoffs and during down times at their games. I think it is “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Metallica and my friend thinks that it is “Hell’s Bells” by AC/DC. Could you please settle the debate?
Ben S.
Park Forest, Illinois
Ben: The Bears play “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Metallica before kickoffs and after touchdowns.
