Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of e-mail questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.
On NFL.com each week, fans can vote for the FedEx air and ground players of the week. Does overlooking Kyle Orton on the list this week show the Bears are still not getting the respect they have earned? Orton led the NFL in passing last weekend and was not included.

I’m not sure what it says and I don’t think it’s part of some grand conspiracy against the Bears. But Kyle Orton definitely deserves to be among the three nominees for the FedEx Air Player of the Week. As you mentioned, Orton’s 334 yards were the most in the NFL last weekend, and his 121.4 passer rating was higher than two of the three nominees, the Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger (100.6) and the Cardinals’ Kurt Warner (107.3). While Roethlisberger tossed 3 touchdown passes, Manning and Warner both threw for two, just like Orton.
Now that the quarterback position seems somewhat stable, why haven’t the Bears shown any interest in trading Rex Grossman? It seems that there are a lot of teams this year that could use a quarterback, let alone one that’s taken a team to the Super Bowl.

The Bears are only five games into an incredibly long NFL season and they need Rex Grossman as insurance. What if Kyle Orton sustains an injury that keeps him out a few weeks? The Bears have emerged as a legitimate contender in the NFC early in the season. If they traded Grossman, they’d have to hand over the reins of the offense to undrafted rookie free agent Caleb Hanie, who while impressive in the preseason obviously hasn’t played a regular-season snap. To me, that’s not a very good idea.
Who was the last Bears quarterback to pass for over 300 yards more than once in a season?
Geoff Y.
Minooka, Illinois
Brian Griese passed for over 300 yards twice last season, accomplishing the feat in back-to-back games with 381 yards in a loss to the Vikings Oct. 14 and 322 yards in a win over the Eagles Oct. 21. Bill Wade holds the Bears’ single-season record with four 300-yard games in 1962. The only Bears quarterbacks to have three 300-yard games in a season are Wade in 1961 and Erik Kramer in 1995.
