Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of e-mail questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.

Larry: I was just looking at the Bears’ 2007 opponents and it appears that they have a very tough schedule. Now that the final records are in, do the Bears have the toughest 2007 schedule in the NFL?

Matt
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Matt: Based on 2006 won/loss records, the Bears actually have the second-easiest 2007 schedule in the NFL, facing opponents that compiled a .465 winning percentage (119-137). But that statistic is misleading. It’s skewed by the fact that the Bears play two games against the 3-13 Lions and one contest versus the 2-14 Raiders. I would agree with you that it is a very difficult schedule. The Bears face each of the NFC’s other five playoff qualifiers, while 7 of their 10 non-divisional games are against teams that had a winning record in 2006.

Larry: After the Super Bowl, the winning team always puts on shirts and hats that proclaim them as champions. What happens to the items with the losing team’s logo on them?

Andrew T.

Andrew: Believe it or not, there’s an organization called “World Vision” that ships those types of items to Third World nations to help clothe people who live in extreme poverty. The merchandise—including Bears Super Bowl XLI championship gear—is distributed in 25 African countries as well as four Eastern European nations.

Larry: Which member of the 1985 Bears was the last to play in an NFL game?

Paul H.
Sault Ste Marie, Canada

Paul: Mike Tomczak, a rookie third-string quarterback on the Super Bowl XX championship team, was the last member of the 1985 Bears to play in the NFL. Tomczak concluded his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, retiring after the 1999 season.
