Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of e-mail questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.
Larry: What do you think of Arkansas running back Felix Jones? He averaged 8.7 yards per carry this season and rushed for over 1,000 yards. Could he be a possible Bears draft pick?
David
Peru, Indiana
David: Although he doesn’t receive as much attention as fellow Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Felix Jones is an excellent prospect who could interest the Bears. He rushed for 1,162 yards and 11 TDs in 2007 after gaining 1,168 yards in 2006. Jones is an incredibly fast and versatile back who may not have the power to be an every-down, between-the-tackles runner in the NFL. But he’s an electrifying player who is also dangerous as a receiver and return specialist.
Larry: It really bothers me that Brian Urlacher did not make the Pro Bowl this year, and I believe that it is because the vote is held too early in the season. Is there any chance that the vote will be moved back after the end of the regular season?
Kenny C.
Demotte, Indiana
Kenny: I totally agree that Brian Urlacher probably would have made the Pro Bowl had the vote been held after the season. After all, he recorded 52 tackles, two sacks, four interceptions and one fumble recovery in the last five games. But as far as I know, the NFL has no plans to change the date of the vote. At least it’s close to the end of the season, unlike other sports. The NHL, NBA and Major League Baseball all conduct voting much earlier and hold their all-star games around the midpoint of their seasons.
Larry: How many former Bears will be playing in the Super Bowl?
Matt
La Grange Highlands, Illinois
Matt: Giants defensive back and punt returner R.W. McQuarters could be the only former Bears player to see action in Super Bowl XLII. Reserve defensive tackle Russell Davis recorded just five tackles in 11 games for the Giants and was inactive for the NFC Championship Game in Green Bay. Also for New York, fullback Jim Finn is on injured reserve and rookie defensive back Andrew Shanle is on the practice squad. The Patriots have two former Bears in linebacker Rosevelt Colvin, who is on injured reserve, and rookie cornerback Tim Mixon, who’s on the practice squad.
