Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of e-mail questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.

Larry: One thing that has always impressed me about Devin Hester’s abilities as a kick returner is that he manages to slip through the tiniest seams. Isn’t this something that could also make him a good running back? Have the Bears considered using him in that role?

Eric G.
Albany, New York

Eric: Devin Hester is so elusive that he probably would be tough to tackle in a phone booth, but that doesn’t mean that the Bears should make him a full-time running back. No other position absorbs as much punishment, and Hester doesn’t have the bulk to be a between-the-tackles runner. The Bears feel that he’s best utilized as a return specialist and as a wide receiver who no doubt will occasionally take a handoff on a reverse or after lining up in the backfield.

Larry: If the Bears decide to select a wide receiver in the second round of the draft, how do you feel about Michigan State’s Devin Thomas?

Ben D.
Niles, Michigan

Ben: I like Devin Thomas a lot, and not just because of his first name. I think he would be a great fit in the Bears offense given his athleticism, excellent hands and ability to run after the catch. He’s a bit inexperienced, but he led the Big Ten in receiving yards last season while playing in a run-oriented offense. I’d be fine with the Bears picking Thomas in the second round of the draft, but I have a feeling that he’ll be taken off the board late in the first round.

Larry: I know it’s not even a remote possibility, but would you like to see Brett Favre in a Bears uniform?

Dan C.
Columbus, Ohio

Dan: Not even for one day. Some things—like Chuck Norris in ballerina slippers or someone from your hometown cheering for Michigan—just aren’t right. Then again, if Brett Favre was 28 and not 38 …
