Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of e-mail questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.

With rumors about Brett Favre wanting to come out of retirement, can you see him ever wearing a Bears uniform?

Stan K.
Harvard, Illinois

The instant I heard news reports about the possibility of Brett Favre playing again, I knew I’d get a handful of emails about whether the Bears would be interested in signing him. Given Favre’s place in Green Bay Packers history, I can’t imagine seeing him ever wear a Bears uniform. That would have been like watching Walter Payton suit up in the green and gold. Blasphemous I say! Seriously, if Favre really wants to come back, I can’t imagine the Packers not welcoming him back. He played at an elite level last season, and Green Bay doesn’t have a quarterback on its roster who has ever started a NFL regular-season game.

I see the final score of the 1940 title game between the Bears and Redskins was 73-0. Doing the math, the Bears must have missed some extra points if they scored 11 TDs. Am I confused?

Bryan H.
Riverside, California

The Bears missed four extra point attempts in the 1940 NFL Championship Game, which was just about the only thing they did wrong all afternoon. One of the tries came on a pass late in the game—officials had asked the Bears not to kick any more extra points because so many footballs had been booted into the stands that the Redskins were down to their last ball.

Can you distinguish between the terms “signed” and “agreed to terms” regarding contracts with new rookies? Is there a difference?

Eric B.
Baltimore, Maryland

When you read about a player “agreeing to terms,” it simply means that his agent and the team have finalized a contract agreement, but the player has yet to physically sign it. That was the case earlier this week, for instance, when Marcus Harrison signed his deal and Earl Bennett and Zackary Bowman agreed to terms without yet putting their names on the dotted line.
