Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.

I know it's only Week 2 of the preseason, but I was wondering if Jay Cutler has ever faced the Steelers.

Jay Cutler has faced the Steelers once in his career. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 248 yards with 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions and a 106.7 passer rating in leading the Broncos to a 31-28 win on Oct. 21, 2007 in Denver. He also had a career-long 31-yard run in that game. With the score tied 28-28, Cutler engineered a seven-play, 49-yard drive to set up Jason Elam’s winning 49-yard field goal with no time remaining.

I thoroughly enjoyed your training camp tweets, but none more than hearing about Brian Urlacher and Jay Cutler swapping jerseys on the last day of camp. Do you think this was a stab at the media who blew out of proportion the supposed rift between the two of them based upon the comments of Vikings receiver Bobby Wade? Could you share any other notable jersey exchanges made between players on the last day of camp?

The thought crossed my mind that perhaps Brian Urlacher and Jay Cutler were trying to send a message to the media, but I think it was more a matter of two marquee players just wanting to walk in each other’s shoes so-to-speak. Watching Urlacher and Cutler chatting on the sidelines during special teams drills as they often do in practice, it’s clear that they have mutual respect for each other. While it was strange seeing No. 54 rifling passes to receivers, the oddest jersey trade probably involved 6-6, 270-pound defensive lineman Israel Idonije and 5-7, 185-pound running back Garrett Wolfe.

Don’t the Bears get to schedule their own preseason games? If so, why would they schedule games on artificial turf and then sit players like Tommie Harris and Matt Forte?

Ken S.
Point Richmond, California

NFL teams only schedule their final preseason game; the league handles the rest of the slate, which included the Bears’ opener last Saturday in Buffalo. The Bears and Browns have had an agreement in place for the preseason finale since 2004, alternating between Chicago and Cleveland each year. (This summer's contest will be played Sept. 3 at Soldier Field.)
