Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.

Now that Kevin Jones is out for the season, is it likely the Bears will look at obtaining a running back that was let go in the final NFL roster reductions?

I think it’s possible, but not probable. I’ve received a lot of emails from fans asking if the Bears would be interested in signing Dominic Rhodes, who was just cut by the Buffalo Bills. I don’t think they feel that Rhodes or anyone else who's available is better than Garrett Wolfe or Adrian Peterson. So barring an injury to one of them, I don’t expect the Bears to sign Rhodes or any other running back at this time. I could see them adding a developmental prospect to the practice squad at some point, however.

Why didn’t the Bears put Brandon Rideau on the practice squad? He’s been on it for several years and it doesn’t make sense that someone who was in competition for a roster spot wouldn’t at least make the practice squad.

Brandon Rideau is no longer eligible for the practice squad. Players cannot spend more than three seasons on an NFL team’s practice squad, and Rideau was on the practice squad with the Browns in 2005 and the Bears in 2006 and 2008. By the way, a season counts as three regular season or post-season games, including bye weeks.

I read the list of players that the Bears re-signed to their practice squad. Were any of the released players picked up by other teams?

Stan M.
Honolulu, Hawaii

The only player the Bears waived who was claimed was fullback Jason Davis (by the New York Jets). All of the others cleared waivers and are now free agents.
