Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.

Why haven’t the Bears placed linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa on injured reserve yet? Is there a chance that he can possibly return late in the season?

Will P.
Rockford, Illinois

There’s no chance that Pisa Tinoisamoa will be able to play this season. He’s out for the year after undergoing knee surgery. Any player the Bears would sign to take his place on the roster wouldn’t be active on game day, and they don’t need any extra bodies for practice right now, so they’re waiting to make that move. Here’s what Lovie Smith said in response to your question: “Right now we feel good about where we are. You always have that option. [But] it’s not like bringing another guy in would help us as far as game day is concerned, and we’re OK with practice now.”

I saw that Nate Kaeding missed a field goal last week. Has Robbie Gould passed Kaeding to become the second most accurate kicker in NFL history, and how many field goals does Gould need to take over the top spot?

Phil T.
Evansville, Indiana

Yes, with Robbie Gould making his only attempt, a 22-yarder, against the Bengals and the Chargers’ Nate Kaeding missing a 43-yarder last Sunday versus the Chiefs, Gould has supplanted Kaeding as the second most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history. Gould has connected on 86.0 percent of his kicks (117 of 136), while Kaeding has made 85.7 percent (132 of 154). Gould needs to hit his next five field goals to move past Mike Vanderjagt (86.5 percent) into the top spot.

How does Johnny Knox compare statistically to other rookie receivers so far this season?

Jan G.
Troy, Michigan

Johnny Knox is tied for third with the Steelers’ Mike Wallace and the Patriots’ Julian Edelman among rookie receivers with 21 receptions, trailing only the Colts’ Austin Collie (24) and the Vikings’ Percy Harvin (22). Knox is sixth in yards with 266 behind Wallace (368), the Giants’ Hakeem Nicks (315), the Browns’ Mohamed Massaquoi (300), the Titans’ Kenny Britt (289) and Harvin (285).
