Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.

I was wondering why Kurt Warner’s late incompletion from the end zone in last Sunday’s game was not ruled intentional grounding and a safety. There seemed to be no one in the area when he threw the ball, and it didn’t appear to be tipped. Why wasn’t that a safety?

It was difficult to see on television, but it was clearer on the game tape I watched. Kurt Warner was actually trying to get the ball to receiver Larry Fitzgerald along the left sideline on that play, but his pass came up well short because Alex Brown bullrushed Mike Gandy, driving Arizona’s left tackle into the quarterback. The contact that Brown created caused Warner’s pass to wobble well short of its target.

How have the Bears fared when playing on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football?

The Bears are 1-1 on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. After not playing during the inaugural season in 2006, they lost to the Washington Redskins 24-16 on Dec. 6, 2007 at FedEx Field and then beat the New Orleans Saints 27-24 in overtime on Dec. 11, 2008 at Soldier Field.

Who leads the all-time series between the Bears and 49ers and how have the Bears fared in San Francisco? Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t remember them winning out there for a long time.

The home team has won the last nine games between the two franchises since 1989. That includes the Bears winning the last three meetings by scores of 23-13 in 2004, 17-9 in 2005 and 41-10 in 2006 at Soldier Field. The Bears have lost their last six games in San Francisco by scores of 41-0, 26-0, 52-14, 44-15, 17-0 and 49-7. That’s an average score of 38-6. The Bears are seeking their first road win in San Francisco since a 26-10 victory during their 1985 Super Bowl season.
