Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.
Any chance the Bears will try Frank Omiyale at right tackle?

I think that playing Frank Omiyale at right tackle is a possibility in the future, but for now he will remain at the left guard position. With Orlando Pace held out of practice this week with a groin injury, the Bears moved Chris Williams from right tackle to left tackle and installed Kevin Shaffer at right tackle. They always talk about getting their five best linemen on the field and they obviously prefer that alignment to moving Omiyale to right tackle and putting Josh Beekman in at left guard.
How do you think the Bears will attempt to rebuild their roster for next year without first- and second-round draft picks? Do you think they will be more active in free agency than usual? Are there likely to be any free agents available at positions of need?
Jeremy B.

With the playoffs no longer a realistic possibility, I know that most fans and media already have turned their attention to next season. But there are still five games remaining—over a quarter of the season—to evaluate players and roster needs heading into the offseason. Some players will ascend, others will descend, and others could get hurt. All of those things will factor into offseason decisions. What I’m trying to say is that there will be plenty of time to address these issues after the season ends. Your questions are good, but the last two are impossible to answer at this time because of the uncertainty due to the labor situation in the NFL. Whether a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached will greatly affect the landscape of free agency next spring.
I know he is recovering from a knee injury, but the few plays Pisa Tinoisamoa was on the field this year made a believer out of me. Do you think it is a good idea for the Bears to try and sign him to some kind of deal beyond this year?
Kenny M.
Lawrenceville, Illinois
I like what Pisa Tinoisamoa brings to the table as a linebacker in terms of his speed, quickness and play-making ability. So, yeah, I’d like to see the Bears re-sign him at the right price. But like I said in the previous answer, let’s see what happens in the final five games of the season. What if Jamar Williams, Nick Roach and perhaps even Cato June play at an extremely high level? Or what if they don’t? That no doubt will greatly determine how much of a priority the Bears place on re-signing Tinoisamoa.
