LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The rookie contract that Jay Cutler signed in 2006 with the Broncos wasn’t due to expire until after the 2011 season. But that didn’t stop the Bears from making an even longer commitment to their quarterback.

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler signs his two-year contract extension Tuesday evening at Halas Hall.
Cutler signed a two-year extension on Tuesday that will keep him in Chicago through the 2013 campaign. The Bears obtained their franchise quarterback April 2 in a blockbuster trade with the Broncos along with a fifth-round draft pick that was used to select receiver Johnny Knox.

Cutler has excelled so far this season. The 26-year-old posted passer ratings of 104.7, 126.4 and 100.4 in consecutive wins over the Steelers, Seahawks and Lions, becoming the first Bears quarterback to top 100 in three straight games since Rudy Bukich in 1964.

Cutler led the Bears to back-to-back comeback victories over the Steelers and Seahawks, completing 14 of 15 passes for 152 yards with 2 touchdowns and a 148.4 passer rating in the fourth quarter of those games.

Since the start of the second half of the Bears’ season opener in Green Bay, Cutler has completed 68 percent of his passes (102 of 150) for 1,074 yards with 10 TDs, four interceptions and a 99.7 passer rating.
