LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears on Wednesday tendered one-year contracts to restricted free agents Mark Anderson, Josh Bullocks, Danieal Manning, Nick Roach and Jamar Williams.

Restricted free agents are permitted to negotiate with other NFL teams. If the player signs an offer sheet with another club, the Bears would have the right to match or receive compensation.

Danieal Manning was selected by the Bears in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
Anderson and Roach were tendered at a level that would bring a second-round draft pick should the Bears decline to match an offer sheet they sign.

The other three restricted free agents were tendered at a level where the compensation would be equal to the round they were drafted in. Williams, a fourth-round choice in 2006, would bring a fourth-round selection.

But Manning and Bullocks, who both entered the NFL as second-round picks, would bring third-round selections as compensation because the Bears put second-round tenders on Anderson and Roach.

Had a new collective bargaining agreement been reached, only Roach would have been a restricted free agent. Anderson, Bullocks, Manning and Williams all would have been unrestricted.

Starting in place of the injured Adewale Ogunleye at defensive end, Anderson registered one sack in each of the Bears’ last two games of the 2009 season. He finished the year with 25 tackles and 3½ sacks.

After compiling 16 sacks in his first 20 NFL games, Anderson was limited to 3½ in his next 40 contests before producing sacks in the final two weeks of the season in wins over the Vikings and Lions.

Bullocks appeared in 12 games with four starts at safety in his first season with the Bears in 2009, amassing 21 tackles on defense and five on special teams. He had seven tackles in each of the last two games.

Manning registered 77 tackles, one sack, one interception, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three pass breakups in 15 games last season. He started 10 contests at free safety and also played nickel back. In addition, he ranked eighth in the NFL in kickoff returns with a 26.6-yard average.

Roach started 12 games at strongside linebacker and three contests at middle linebacker. He set career highs with 82 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Starting the final 10 games of the season at strongside linebacker, the former Northwestern star recorded 41 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, one sack, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Williams appeared in all 16 games. Though he played primarily on special teams, he compiled a career-high 49 tackles and two pass breakups on defense.

Starting in place of the injured Lance Briggs at weakside linebacker, Williams had a career-high 19 tackles in a win over the Rams. Since 1995, the only Bears player to record more tackles in a game is Brian Urlacher.

The Bears also tendered one-year contracts to three exclusive rights free agents: special teams standout Tim Shaw, running back Kahlil Bell and defensive tackle Matt Toeaina. Exclusive rights free agents are not permitted to negotiate with other teams.
