Other former Bears expected to attend include Dan Hampton, Emery Moorehead, Jim Morrissey and Matt Suhey as well as Jarrett Payton, the son of Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton.
Since 2007, the University of Illinois Medical Center has been home to the Walter Payton Liver Center, a comprehensive liver disease treatment and program named in honor of the Bears legend, who died of liver cancer in 1999. The center has set a goal of finding a cure for liver cancer by 2020.
The "Love Your Liver" event was created by Kassie Banister in memory of her father, William Lee Banister, who died of liver cancer in 2006, two years after receiving a liver transplant.
“The liver center gave my father two years of extra life due to his transplant, so it gave us more time with him,” she said. “The researchers and the medical directors at the Walter Payton Liver Center have the knowledge and expertise to give people longer lives and help people who have diseases.”
