LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears on Sunday agreed to terms with left guard Ruben Brown on a one-year contract and free-agent defensive tackle Anthony Adams on a four-year deal.

Bears veteran guard Ruben Brown has been voted to nine Pro Bowls.
Brown was voted to his ninth career Pro Bowl and first as a member of the Bears following the 2006 season. The 12-year veteran has started 37 games at left guard in three seasons in Chicago.

Brown’s return enables the Bears to keep their veteran offensive line intact. The unit also includes left tackle John Tait, center Olin Kreutz, right guard Roberto Garza and right tackle Fred Miller.

Adams is the second veteran to join the Bears from another team in less than a week, following safety Adam Archuleta, who arrived via a trade with the Washington Redskins last Tuesday.

An unrestricted free agent, Adams spent his first four NFL seasons with the 49ers after being selected by San Francisco in the second round of the 2003 draft (57th overall), 11 slots before the Bears chose linebacker Lance Briggs.

Adams registered 155 tackles with six sacks in 58 games with 34 starts in four seasons with the 49ers. The 6-foot, 299-pounder is an undersized but quick tackle who seemingly is an ideal fit for the Bears’ one-gap defense.

The addition of Adams bolsters a key position for the Bears. While Tommie Harris is expected to make a full recovery from a hamstring injury, Tank Johnson is currently serving a 120-day jail sentence and could be suspended by the NFL. Alfonso Boone signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, while Ian Scott could also leave via free agency.
