LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Disappointed about being waived during final cuts Saturday, wide receiver Brandon Rideau was happy to be back with the Bears after being signed to their practice squad Monday.
“It was a tough thing to deal with, but I was able to stick around,” he said. “I didn’t really want to move and I’m comfortable here, so I got a chance to come back and continue to do what I do.”

In last Thursday’s preseason finale, Rideau caught three passes for a game-high 63 yards, scoring the Bears’ only TD on a 19-yard pass from Rex Grossman and setting up Robbie Gould’s go-ahead field goal with a 38-yard grab from Hanie in a 16-10 win over the Browns.
“I really wanted to make the team and I still feel like I have an opportunity,” said Rideau, who has spent parts of the past two seasons on the Bears' practice squad. “I’m glad they didn’t close the door for me. As long as my foot is in the door, then I can come in and take advantage.”
The Bears also signed fullback Jason Davis to their practice squad. Davis, who played at Illinois for Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner, was cut Saturday by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Davis joined the Eagles in 2006 as an undrafted free agent, spending his rookie season on injured reserve with a torn ACL and the 2007 campaign on Philadelphia's practice squad.
The Bears still have one spot open on their eight-man practice squad.
Captains named: In other news Monday, the Bears selected their team captains for the 2008 season: Center Olin Kreutz and quarterback Kyle Orton on offense; middle linebacker Brian Urlacher and safety Mike Brown on defense; and long-snapper Patrick Mannelly on special teams.
“There are a lot of things that go into it,” coach Lovie Smith said when asked about the criteria. “Most of the time, it’s a pretty good football player. It’s a guy who does it the right way most of the time. I’m talking about preparing off the field. You can count on him on the football field and just a guy that you want representing you.
“It’s always good to see that there are a couple guys who get votes because you have two guys out in front on both sides of the ball, but you’re going to need 11 leaders really always.”
