LAKE FOREST, Ill. – With Bears starters Tommie Harris
, Brandon Lloyd and Charles Tillman
out with injuries, reserves Israel Idonije
, Devin Hester
and Corey Graham
all helped fill the void in Sunday night’s 24-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Soldier Field.
“When you put your 53-man roster together, you assume that injuries will happen,” said coach Lovie Smith
. “They happen every year. We’re not the only team that had injuries [Sunday].

Starting for Harris (knee) at defensive tackle, Idonije registered a key third-down sack of Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb in the first quarter and had four tackles, including a stop of running back Correll Buckhalter for no gain late in the third period.
Six plays after Lloyd exited with a knee injury, Hester snared a 20-yard TD pass from Kyle Orton late in the first half, giving the Bears a 21-14 lead they would never relinquish.
Graham also filled in admirably after Tillman exited in the third quarter with a shoulder injury.
“We pride ourselves on the depth of this team,” said defensive end Adewale Ogunleye
. “I think all 53 guys can play. Coaches always emphasize that if you’re on this team, we need you to contribute one day or another and that’s what it’s coming down to, especially guys like Israel Idonije stepping up like he did.”
Roster move: The Bears on Tuesday re-signed receiver Mike Hass to the practice squad. Hass spent the entire 2007 season on Chicago's active roster, appearing in one game at Philadelphia.
Hass was selected by the Saints in the sixth round of the 2006 draft after winning the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top receiver at Oregon State in 2005. He spent his rookie season on the Bears’ practice squad after being released by New Orleans.
Benson’s back: Former Bears running back Cedric Benson on Tuesday signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, who lost second-string back DeDe Dorsey to a season-ending hamstring injury in Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns. Benson is expected to serve as Chris Perry’s backup.
The fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft, Benson was waived by the Bears June 9, two days after he was arrested for the second time in five weeks for an alcohol-related transgression. All of the charges were dropped last Thursday.
On Sept. 20, Benson told the Austin American-Statesman that “these last couple of months have been humbling. It really made me take a step back and evaluate what I was doing. It’s given me an opportunity to look in the mirror to see who I’m looking at and talk to that person.”
