LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Senior writer Larry Mayer sits down with general manager Jerry Angelo to discuss the most pressing issues involving the Bears every Wednesday exclusively on ChicagoBears.com.

This feature will provide you with inside information directly from Jerry that you can’t get anywhere else. Jerry will candidly discuss relevant issues affecting the Bears that fans are most interested in.

Devin Hester's 36-yard touchdown reception Sunday lifted the Bears to a 25-19 win over the Seahawks.
LM: What impressed you most about Sunday’s win over the Seahawks?

JA: The way we came from behind. Anytime you’re on the road and you fall behind like we did by 13 points, that’s tough. I don’t care who you’re playing, how good you are or what your opponent’s record is, that’s very tough to do in our league. That probably impressed me the most; the way we were able to hang in there, regroup and then find a way to win.

LM: What does it say about a team like the Bears that did that two straight weeks against the Steelers and Seahawks?

JA: It says a lot about the team’s identity. We say going into every year that’s the one component you don’t know about your football team until you start playing games, irrelevant of how you feel about your players from a talent standpoint. You could have a lot of the same players from the year before. In terms of the mindset of the players and the character of a football team, every year takes on another identity. Sometimes it’s close, but it’s never the same, and obviously it bodes well in that area.

LM: A lot of people criticized the Bears’ wide receiving corps heading into the season and thought the team should have added a veteran at the position during the offseason. How vindicated do you feel now given the rapid development of young receivers Devin Hester, Earl Bennett and Johnny Knox?

JA: I don’t like the word “vindicated.” To me it’s a belief. We’ve always believed in our receivers and I’ve always said this as well: The only way players know you believe in them is if you play them. If you bring in veterans, how are they supposed to take that? I think we’ve done a fine job. Our coaches and players have worked together and had confidence in what the receivers can do, and we’re starting to see the fruits of their labor. Obviously, Jay Cutler has helped their development. He’s shown a lot of confidence in them, and I think that’s also helped their development.

LM: Why did the Bears re-sign linebacker Darrell McClover rather than pursuing a more experienced veteran at the position after Hunter Hillenmeyer injured his rib against the Seahawks, and how close is injured strongside linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa to returning?

JA: We signed Darrell McClover for special teams purposes as what we did with Tim Shaw because Nick Roach and Jamar Williams got promoted as starters. Pisa will be back here shortly—if not this week then after our bye week against Atlanta. In the event that he and Hunter aren’t ready to go this week, then Jamar and Nick will be our starters. That would take them off special teams, so we needed a player to replace them in that area.
