CHICAGO – The Bears will look to win their second straight game and at least keep pace with the Vikings and Packers in the NFC North today when they host the Cardinals at Soldier Field.

The Bears will look to build off last Sunday’s 30-6 win over the woeful Browns at Soldier Field. In that game, Chicago generated a season-high five takeaways and scored its first defensive TD of the season on Charles Tillman’s 21-yard interception return.
Improving in the red zone is a main focus today for the Bears offense, which compiled a season-high 369 total yards and 20 first downs last Sunday but scored just two touchdowns on six possessions inside Cleveland’s 20-yard line (excluding a game-ending kneel down).
Jay Cutler completed 17 of 30 passes for 225 yards with one interception and a 66.7 passer rating against the Browns. But he failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time this season. Cutler was battered by the NFL’s 32nd-ranked defense, which was credited with four sacks and seven quarterback hits.
Running back Matt Forte enters today’s game having rushed for 408 yards and three TDs on 118 carries. His two best games of the season have come in the Bears’ last two home games with Forte rushing for 121 yards on 12 carries in a win over the Lions and 90 yards on 26 attempts versus the Browns.
The Cardinals had the NFL’s top run defense before they slipped to eighth after allowing 270 yards on the ground in last Sunday’s surprising 34-21 home loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Devin Hester enters today’s game having caught 21 passes in his last three contests, the second-most in the NFL behind only Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald, who has 25 receptions. Hester leads the Bears in receiving with 35 receptions for 454 yards and 3 TDs.
The Bears defense will face a stiff challenge today. Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, a two-time NFL MVP, operates a potent passing attack that features three wide receivers in Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston who have combined to catch 112 passes for 1,313 yards and 7 TDs this season.
Warner will be looking to rebound after throwing five interceptions and losing a fumble last Sunday against the Panthers. The veteran quarterback has completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 1,914 yards with 11 TDs, 11 interceptions and an 81.5 passer rating this season.
The Bears feel that they must generate pressure on Warner to win today’s game. After registering 14 sacks in their first four games—including a season-high five in a win over the Lions—they’ve mustered just one sack in their last three contests.
On special teams, the Bears hope to build off an outstanding performance against the Browns. In that game, Chicago neutralized Joshua Cribbs, who had entered the game leading the NFL in punt returns with a 16.4-yard average and ranked fourth in kickoff returns with a 28.9-yard average.
If Robbie Gould makes his first two field goal attempts today, he will surpass Mike Vanderjagt to become the most accurate kicker in NFL history. Gould has connected on 120 of 139 attempts in five seasons with the Bears, an 86.3 percent success rate that’s just below the retired Vanderjagt (86.5).
