Morgan, who signed a one-year contract with the Bears last Monday after spending his first six NFL seasons with the 49ers and Redskins, was accused of punching a valet driver in the mouth.
“We are aware of Josh Morgan’s presence at a weekend incident in Washington, D.C.,” the Bears said in a statement. “We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the event.”
Morgan denied that he struck the man, telling the NBC-TV affiliate in Washington, D.C.: “I know I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t touch him. I’ve always been a standup guy in the community. I’ve always been a standup guy period. Everybody knows me. Everybody knows how I am. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. What a coincidence that now I signed with the Chicago Bears, now all of a sudden it happened.”
A D.C. native, Morgan has appeared in 79 games with the 49ers (2008-11) and Redskins (2012-13), catching 199 passes for 2,488 yards and 11 touchdowns while also averaging 23.1 yards on 25 kickoff returns.
