The Bears on Monday tendered a qualifying offer to restricted free agent running back Kahlil Bell.
The Bears now have the right to match any offer sheet Bell receives from another club within one week of the offer being made.
Per team policy, the Bears do not divulge the level at which they tender restricted free agents.
Bell has appeared in 20 games with three starts during three seasons with the Bears, rushing for 557 yards on 119 carries and catching 20 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown.
The free agency signing period begins at 3 p.m. (CT) Tuesday. The 2012 salary cap is $120.6 million.
After placing a franchise tag on running back Matt Forte, the Bears have 12 players set to become unrestricted free agents: cornerback Zackary Bowman, tight end Kellen Davis, cornerback Corey Graham, quarterback Caleb Hanie, defensive end Israel Idonije, cornerback Tim Jennings, long-snapper Chris Massey, quarterback Josh McCown, safety Brandon Meriweather, defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, safety Craig Steltz and receiver Roy Williams.
