Jordan Howard ranked second in the NFL in rushing last season with 1,313 yards.

Other Bears who are not expected to play against the Cardinals because of injuries include running back Jeremy Langford, guard Kyle Long, receivers Joshua Bellamy and Markus Wheaton, defensive lineman Mitch Unrein and Kapron Lewis-Moore, inside linebackers Danny Trevathan, Jonathan Anderson and Alex Scearce and defensive back Bryce Callahan.

In other news Friday, the Bears signed veteran linebacker Kelvin Sheppard and waived undrafted rookie linebacker Hendrick Ekpe.

Sheppard has appeared in 93 games with 57 starts over six seasons with the Bills (2011-12), Colts (2013), Dolphins (2014-15) and Giants (2016). He was selected by Buffalo in the third round of the 2011 draft out of LSU.

Last season Sheppard played in all 16 games with 11 starts for the Giants, recording 50 tackles. In 2015, he registered a career-high 105 tackles while appearing in all 16 games with 13 starts for the Dolphins.
