After playing exceptionally well against the Raiders two weeks ago, right tackle Lance Louis struggled mightily in last Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs, allowing multiple sacks.
“We had a lot of guys play good. We had one guy that had an off day,” said offensive line coach Mike Tice. “We could have helped him a little bit with some of the protection things we did. After that first [sack], he went into a little bit of a technique funk, didn’t really dig his way out of it and it kind of snowballed a little bit.”
Tice is confident that Louis will rebound Sunday when the Bears visit the Denver Broncos.
“He’ll bounce back. He’ll be fine,” Tice said. “For a guy that’s been thrown over there at right tackle, he’s been holding down the fort pretty good. I’m not down on him. I think he’s down on himself a little bit right now. I don’t think he should be. As I said, we could have helped him as a staff a little bit more, and we will moving forward."
The Bears permitted a season-high seven sacks to the Chiefs, who had entered the game with just 13 sacks in their first 11 contests this season.
“We had a lot of guys play good in that game,” Tice said. “It kind of gets overshadowed by the numbers. Everyone’s hung up on the numbers all the time—seven sacks—but I’m not. You can’t be. We just have to bounce back. It’s unfortunate, but we have to bounce back. It’s a long season. We’ve got a game this week and we’ve got to move on.”
