LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Shortly after Stephen Paea was selected by the Bears in the second round of the draft, he received a congratulatory phone call from veteran Matt Toeaina.
The two players, who are both defensive tackles of Polynesian descent, met for the first time last week at a fitness center that’s located a few miles from Halas Hall in Vernon Hills.
“It was a typical Polynesian thing,” Paea told ESPNChicago.com. “I predicted how he was going to be and as I thought, he turned out to be a really cool, down to earth person. When a Poly meets another Poly, we’re all on the same level. Polynesians tend to attract to each other. It’s just a Poly thing.”
