Bears add free-agent tight end Sims

The Bears bolstered their tight end position Friday by signing Dion Sims to a three-year contract. Sims spent the past four seasons with the Dolphins.

The Bears bolstered their tight end position Friday by signing Dion Sims to a three-year contract.

The 26-year-old spent his first four NFL seasons with the Dolphins after being selected by Miami in the fourth round of the 2013 draft out of Michigan State. Sims has appeared in 56 career games with 22 starts, catching 74 passes for 699 yards and eight touchdowns.

Last season the 6-5, 262-pounder played in 14 games with 11 starts, setting career highs with 26 receptions and four touchdowns while compiling 256 yards.

Sims grew up in Detroit, starring at St. Mary's Preparatory. He also played basketball as a freshman at Michigan State before deciding to focus solely on football.
