Did the Bears really try to trade
Oak Forest, Illinois
Bears general manager Phil Emery on Monday refuted media reports that the Bears were trying to trade receiver Earl Bennett. Emery took issue with the national writer who first reported the story on Twitter, telling local media: "I don't know the source of that tweet. We weren't asked for confirmation, which I find odd. I do know that everybody in this room has been very diligent and very professional in terms of following up with us and asking for confirmation or at least allowing us the opportunity to deny or not speak about it at all. That opportunity is always given to us. It wasn't in this instance, which surprises me a little bit. A lot of people would say, 'Well, then it probably came from another team.' But that would surprise me too because that would constitute tampering, which is a very serious offense. So I'm really not sure what that was all about."
Did any Bears players change their numbers after the 53-man roster was established?
Yes, four rookies changed their numbers after earning roster spots with the Bears: Linebacker
It seemed like a lot of former Bears were cut by other teams this past weekend. Do you have a list of them?
I was thinking the same thing. Former Bears who were released by other teams in the last week or so include tight ends Kellen Davis (Browns) and Evan Rodriguez (Dolphins), fullback Tyler Clutts (Texans), safety Al Afalava (Titans), guard Ricky Henry (Chiefs), defensive tackles Antonio Garay (Jets) and Jarron Gilbert (Bills), quarterback Caleb Hanie (Ravens), offensive lineman Lance Louis (Dolphins) and special teams standout Tim Shaw (Titans).
