10:57 AM - Welcome to my live game blog! It's great to be back at Soldier Field for the first time in four weeks, especially after back-to-back losses in Atlanta and Cincinnati. From now until the end of today's game between the Bears and Browns, I'll bring you the latest developments while also providing a behind-the-scenes look at what's transpiring both on and off the field.
10:59 AM - Linebacker Pisa Tinoasamoa, who's out for the season following knee surgery, and defensive tackle Matt Toeaina (calf) are on the inactive list today because of injuries. Other Bears inactives are receivers Juaquin Iglesias and Devin Aromashodu, cornerback D.J. Moore, safety Josh Bullocks, guard Lance Louis and defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert.
11:01 AM - The Bears will have some changes in their starting lineup today. Josh Beekman will replace Frank Omiyale at left guard; Hunter Hillenmeyer will move from strongside linebacker to middle linebacker, flip-flopping with Nick Roach; and Marcus Harrison will start in place of Anthony Adams at defensive tackle next to Tommie Harris.
11:03 AM - The Bears will honor Walter Payton today on the 10th anniversary of his death. The team is passing out Payton calendars to the first 40,000 fans that arrive and will stage a halftime ceremony that includes a video tribute. There are also footballs with the number 34 painted at the 34-yard lines. Payton's children, Jarrett and Brittney, will serve as "fourth phase" captains.
11:05 AM - If you don't like orange, you're going to have to watch today's game with a pair of sunglasses. The Bears are donning their orange jerseys, while the Browns are wearing their regular orange helmets.
11:13 AM - Facing the woeful Browns today gives the Bears a great opportunity to not only end their two-game losing streak but rebuild some confidence that has to be waning slightly after last Sunday's debacle in Cincinnati. Consider this comparison: The Browns offense has scored four touchdowns on 81 possessions this season; the Bengals scored four touchdowns on their first four possessions last Sunday against the Bears.
11:55 AM - I just returned from the field. The weather is perfect for football. The temperature is 50 degrees with light winds. The Payton family is on the Bears sideline. I've been told that Matt Forte will run the "Fourth Phase" flag onto the field and hand it to the Payton family. I saw a sign honoring Sweetness that said, "Nobody did it better ... or ever will." I couldn't agree more.
12:02 PM - The Browns have won the coin toss and will receive. Cleveland ranks 31st on offense and 32nd on defense, but the Browns rank first in the NFL on special teams. Let's hope someone can tackle Joshua Cribbs.
12:08 PM - Robbie Gould did a great job on the opening kickoff, booting it out of the end zone for a touchback. The defense followed with a three-and-out, and Devin Hester returned a punt 32 yards to the Cleveland 44, where he got tripped up by punter Dave Zastudil.
12:11 PM - The Bears offense failed to capitalize on the good field position. After Matt Forte's 2-yard run, Jay Cutler threw an incomplete pass, then came up four yards shy of a first down on four-yard scramble on third down.
12:16 PM - The Browns go three-and-out for the second straight possession as blitzing rookie safety Al Afalava bats down Derek Anderson's third-down pass. The Bears had Nate Vasher in the game at free safety (instead of Kevin Payne) in the nickel defense.
12:20 PM - The Bears offense is out of sync. Jay Cutler didn't see Matt Forte open in the right flat, taking a sack, then missed Forte high and wide in the left flat.
12:24 PM - The Bears defense just forced its third straight three-and-out to start the game. (I think I know why Browns fans are planning a protest at their next home game in a few weeks.) Let's see if the Bears offense can put a drive together. The way this game has started, the Bears look destined to win 3-0 ... in overtime!
12:41 PM - Robbie Gould's 37-yard field goal gave the Bears a 3-0 lead with 2:20 left in the first quarter. The kick capped a 10-play, 49-yard drive. The Bears converted two big third downs as Matt Forte caught a short pass and turned it into a 28-yard gain on third-and-five and Jay Cutler scrambled up the middle for 19 yards on third-and-nine. But the offense self-destructed inside the red zone with a false start and a five-yard loss by Devin Hester, who took a handoff from Forte out of the wildcat formation.
12:45 PM - Danieal Manning made a diving interception of a Derek Anderson pass and returned it 35 yards to the Cleveland 13. But the Bears offense mustered just two yards on three plays, and settled for Robbie Gould's 29-yard field goal. The Soldier Field crowd booed the offense off the field.
12:51 PM - The Browns turned the ball over on their second straight possession, but it was more a giveaway than a takeaway. Jamal Lewis bobbled and then dropped a handoff from Derek Anderson, and Adewale Ogunleye recovered at the Browns' 46.
1:00 PM - Robbie Gould's 32-yard field goal gave the Bears a 9-0 lead with 8:43 left in the second quarter. Gould's kick came after the Bears stalled in the red zone yet again. Matt Forte's 12-yard run resulted in first-and-goal at the 9. After Forte gained three yards on back-to-back carries, Jay Cutler was sacked. It appeared that he was looking for Desmond Clark in the end zone, but Clark was knocked down by DB Abram Elam.
1:15 PM - Jay Cutler took a helmet-to-chin shot from linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, who drew a 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty on a third-and-eight incompletion, resulting in an automatic first down. Cutler remained in the game, but appears to be a little shaken up.
1:24 PM - Finally ... it's a touchdown! Matt Forte's 1-yard TD run gave the Bears a 16-0 lead with 1:56 left in the first half. The score capped a 10-play, 71-yard drive that was sustained by a roughing-the-passer penalty on a third-down incompletion. The Bears had settled for field goals on three previous possessions after reaching the Cleveland 9. 11 and 3.
1:49 PM - The Bears held the Browns to 61 yards in the first half, the fifth fewest in Lovie Smith's six seasons as coach. Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson completed 2 of 9 passes for 13 yards with 1 interception and a Blutarski-like 0.0 passer rating.
1:51 PM - Craig Steltz has suffered an arm injury and will not return.
1:57 PM - Derek Anderson's 1-yard TD dive drew the Browns to within 16-6 with 10:33 left in the third quarter. Cleveland started the drive at the Bears' 30 after Brad Maynard shanked a 12-yard punt off the side of his foot. Israel Idonije blocked Phil Dawson's extra point attempt.
2:18 PM - Danieal Manning generated his second takeaway of the game, stripping the ball from tight end Steve Heiden after a short reception and scooping it up near midfield late in the third quarter.
2:20 PM - Jay Cutler completed a 31-yard pass to Johnny Knox to the Cleveland 10. Cutler got nailed by defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and looks a little woozy. Cutler has gotten hit harder in this game than any other this season.
2:22 PM - Matt Forte's 10-yard TD run extended the Bears' lead to 23-6 with 1:42 left in the third quarter. Forte took an inside handoff to the left, and bounced back around right end into the end zone. The Bears have now scored 13 of their 23 points off three takeaways.
2:32 PM - Rookie Al Afalava broke up a fourth-and-two pass intended for tight end Steve Heiden, and the Bears took over at their own 28-yard line with 13:00 remaining.
2:38 PM - Jay Cutler's third-down pass was deflected by linebacker Kaluka Maiava and intercepted by diving safety Brodney Pool. The Bears challenged the call, but the ruling was upheld after a replay review. The Browns take over at the Chicago 34.
2:40 PM - The Bears defense responded. One play after Jay Cutler's interception, Nick Roach stripped rookie receiver Mohamed Massaquoi after a short reception, and Charles Tillman recovered the loose ball at the Bears' 15.
2:55 PM - Devin Hester turned a short pass into a 33-yard gain, giving the Bears first-and-goal at the 2. But they failed to get in the end zone. Jay Cutler threw the ball away on first down, and Matt Forte was stopped for no gain on second down and gained one yard on third down. On fourth-and-goal, Cutler's pass intended for Desmond Clark was batted down by linebacker Kamerion Wimbley.
2:56 PM - Three plays after the Bears turned it over on downs, Charles Tillman made a diving interception, picked himself up off the ground and returned the pick 21 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 30-6 with 3:14 left in the fourth quarter.
3:14 PM - This one is over. The Bears have defeated the Cleveland Browns 30-6. Stay with ChicagoBears.com for complete postgame coverage.
