Born as the Decatur Staleys in 1920, the Bears will return to the Central Illinois city as part of their centennial season celebration.

The reigning NFC North champions will hold a “Return to Decatur” event July 21 that will include a session for fans with general manager Ryan Pace and coach Matt Nagy and other activities. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.

George Halas helped found the Bears in 1920 when he worked for the A.E. Staley food starch company in Decatur. After one season, the team moved to Chicago. It was known as the Chicago Staleys in 1921 before being renamed the Chicago Bears in 1922.

Several events will take place on Sunday, July 21, at the Decatur Civic Center (1 Gary K Anderson Plaza, Decatur). Tickets are $5 each (plus applicable fees). All proceeds will benefit the Staley Museum.

The schedule includes:

  • 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: Outdoor activities, including appearances by Staley Da Bear and Chicago Bears Drumline, mobile Pro Shop, concessions, photo opportunities, face painting, balloon artists and interactive activities. Limited autographs and book signing opportunities will be available.
  • 3-4 p.m.: Hall of Fame writer Don Pierson, Bears Chairman George H. McCaskey and alumnus Lance Briggs will join on a panel to discuss the Chicago Bears Centennial Scrapbook, which will be moderated by Jeff Joniak, Voice of the Bears on WBBM Newsradio 780 & 105.9 FM, and Tom Thayer, former Chicago Bear and current Color Analyst of the Bears on WBBM Newsradio 780 & 105.9 FM.
  • 4:45-5:30 p.m.: Pace and Nagy will sit down for a season preview with fans in attendance. This will also be moderated by Joniak and Thayer.
