Chalk Talk: Why wasn't Mack credited with a sack?

Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

Why wasn't Khalil Mack credited with a sack on the two-point conversion play in the Bears' win over the Raiders in Las Vegas?

Several fans emailed me questioning why Khalil Mack wasn't credited with a sack when he dropped Raiders quarterback Derek Carr behind the line of scrimmage on a two-point conversion attempt Sunday in Las Vegas. The reason is that individual stats such as pass and rush attempts, completions, yards gained, interceptions, sacks, etc. do not count on conversion tries. It's been like that in the NFL for as long as I can remember. For instance, Dick Butkus famously caught an extra-point pass to beat Washington 16-15 following a botched snap on the PAT in a 1971 game at Soldier Field. But if you look at his stats, he has no career receptions. It doesn't seem fair, but that's been a longstanding rule. If it makes you feel any better, it didn't seem like Mack felt slighted when I asked him about not getting a sack for the play. He just smiled and said, "It's all good."

What was your favorite play in the Bears' win over the Raiders?
Ross L.
Barrington, Illinois

There were several impressive ones, most notably the two touchdowns with Justin Fields' throw and Jesper Horsted's catch, followed later by Damien Williams' spin and run into the end zone. But my favorite play had to be Fields' 13-yard completion to Darnell Mooney on third-and-12 from the Bears' own 27, sustaining a fourth-quarter drive after the Raiders had cut the deficit to 14-9. Las Vegas had six players lined up across the field a few yards short of the first-down marker, and Mooney found an open sliver and Fields made an outstanding throw.

When was the last time the Bears had two running backs with at least 16 rushing attempts in a game like they did last Sunday?
Aaron J.
Virginia

The last time it happened was more than a decade ago on Oct. 10, 2010 when Matt Forte rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries and Chester Taylor added 43 yards on 18 attempts in a 23-6 win over the Panthers in Charlotte. In last Sunday's win over the Raiders, rookie Khalil Herbert ran for 75 yards on 18 carries and Williams gained 64 yards and one TD on 16 attempts.
