Roster Moves: Bears ink undrafted free agents


The Bears on Thursday signed 13 undrafted free agents and two first-year pros in advance of this weekend's rookie minicamp.

Undrafted free agents

Daniel Archibong, Temple defensive tackle (6-6, 300)
Played in 48 games over five seasons, registering 89 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss, 6.0 sacks and eight pass breakups … As a graduate student in 2020, was one of only five players to start all seven of Temple's games … Earned criminal justice degree in 2019 and wants to work for the FBI.

Gage Cervenka, Clemson guard (6-3, 325)
Appeared in 46 games with 23 starts over four seasons from 2016-19 … Redshirted as defensive tackle in 2015 before switching to offensive line in 2016 … Clemson posted 29-1 record in his two seasons as starter, winning 2018 national championship … Set school record with 44 bench press reps of 225 pounds in 2019 … Only four-time state heavyweight high school wrestling champion in South Carolina history; compiled 199-1 record as wrestler with only loss coming during freshman year.

Scooter Harrington, Stanford tight end (6-5, 250)
Appeared in 42 games over four seasons, catching 17 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns … In 2020, established career highs with eight receptions for 58 yards and scored first two TDs … Was born in California but attended high school in Connecticut … Comes from athletic family: Father Scott (football) and mother Kathy (softball) both played sports at Boston College and older brother Jack played lacrosse at Duke. … Full name is Scott James Harrington.

Brian Johnson, Virginia Tech kicker (6-1, 185)
Appeared in 42 games over four seasons, making 76.1 percent of his field-goal attempts (54 of 71) … Played in 11 contests as a senior last year, converting 76.9 percent of his field-goal tries (20 of 26) with a career long of 55 yards.

Caleb Johnson, Houston Baptist linebacker (6-2, 220)
Three-year starter is first player in Houston Baptist football program's seven-year history to sign with NFL team … Was named Southland Conference co-defensive player of the year in 2020 after recording 49 tackles while playing in just four games … Reached double digits in tackles in all four contests with 12, 13, 11 and 13 … Was one of four team captains … San Diego native ranks first all-time in school history with seven fumble recoveries, second with 10.0 sacks and third with 278 tackles.

Sam Kamara, Stony Brook defensive tackle (6-2, 275)
Played in 41 games over five seasons, compiling 110 tackles, 15.0 sacks and 24.0 tackles-for-loss … In 2020, was named first-team all-Colonial Athletic Association after registering 12 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 3.0 tackles-for-loss and first two forced fumbles of career while appearing in just three games … New Jersey native's most productive season was 2018 when he set career highs with 42 tackles, 9.0 sacks and 11.5 tackles-for-loss in 12 games … Earned bachelor's degree in December 2020.

C.J. Marable, Coastal Carolina running back (5-10, 200)
Transferred to Coastal Carolina in 2018 after stints at Arkansas State (2016) and Presbyterian College (2017) … Appeared in 36 games over past three seasons at Coastal Carolina, rushing for 2,691 yards and 29 touchdowns on 491 carries, catching 84 passes for 703 yards and 12 TDs and averaging 17.4 yards on 13 kickoff returns … In 2020, was named all-Sun Belt first-team as running back and all-purpose specialist after leading conference with 1,227 all-purpose yards (887 rushing, 228 receiving and 112 on kickoff returns) … Last year led Sun Belt and tied for fourth in nation with 19 total TDs, reaching end zone in 11 of 12 games … Had at least one reception in final 32 contests … Ranks second in school history in career rushing yards and 100-yard games (10).

Khalil McClain, Troy receiver (6-4, 222)
Converted quarterback who transferred to Troy in 2019 after stints at Tulane—where he was teammates with Bears receiver Darnell Mooney—in 2017 and Hutchinson Community College in 2018 … Played in 22 games the past two seasons at Troy, catching 77 passes for 945 yards and 13 touchdowns … In 2020, had 32 receptions for 383 yards and six TDs in 10 contests … As senior quarterback at Creekside High School in Georgia, was named conference player of the year after accounting for 28 touchdowns, 10 passing and 18 rushing … Appeared in two games as reserve quarterback as Tulane freshman before switching to receiver a year later at Hutchinson C.C.

Dareuan Parker, Mississippi State guard (6-4, 355)
Appeared in 47 games with 22 starts over four seasons … In 2020, was school's only offensive lineman to start all 11 games … Was named third-team All-SEC by Pro Football Focus at right guard … Earned his undergraduate degree in industrial technology in December 2020.

Dionte Ruffin, Western Kentucky cornerback (5-11, 185)
Played in 38 games over four seasons, recording 78 tackles, two interceptions, 23 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery … In 2020, started every game for second straight year and was named second-team all-Conference USA after registering first two interceptions and career-high 10 pass breakups … First career interception came against BYU star Zach Wilson last Halloween, breaking quarterback's all-time school-record streak of 184 consecutive passes without a pick.

Thomas Schaffer, Stanford defensive lineman (6-7, 301)
Was born in Vienna, Austria, and became the first Austrian ever to play FBS football … Attended high school at Lake Forest Academy, which is located about one mile from Halas Hall … Appeared in 26 games over four seasons, compiling 37 tackles, 4.0 sacks and 9.0 tackles-for-loss … In 2020, established career high and led team with 3.0 sacks while playing in six games.

Charles Snowden, Virginia outside linebacker (6-7, 240)
Appeared in 45 games over four seasons, generating 190 tackles, 15.0 sacks, 30.5 tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries … In 2020, was named second-team all-ACC after registering 44 tackles, career-high 6.0 sacks and 10 tackles-for-loss in first eight games before suffering season-ending ankle injury against Abilene-Christian … Had 10 tackles and 4.0 sacks in upset win over North Carolina.

Gunnar Vogel, Northwestern tackle (6-6, 310)
Played in 25 games over four seasons … In 2020, started all nine games for offense that produced 16 rushing touchdowns and averaged 162.8 rushing yards per game … Grandfather Bob Vogel was star tackle at Ohio State who was selected by Baltimore Colts with fifth pick in 1963 NFL Draft. Bob was five-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro in 10 seasons with Colts, helping them win Super Bowl V.

Rojestman Farris II, Hawaii cornerback (6-1, 180)
Signed with Atlanta Falcons as undrafted free agent in 2020 but was waived Aug. 4 … Appeared in 49 games with 44 starts over four seasons at Hawaii from 2016-19 … Registered 169 tackles, four interceptions (one in each year) and 25 pass breakups … Returned lone interception as senior in 2019 100 yards for a touchdown against Army … Graduated with degree in sociology and political science … Attended Coral Springs Charter High School in Florida, playing receiver and defensive back.

Michael Pinckney, Miami (Fla.) linebacker (6-1, 220)
Signed with Patriots as undrafted free agent in 2020 and spent part of rookie season on New England's practice squad … Played in 49 games over four seasons at Miami from 2016-19 … Recorded 269 tackles, 42.0 tackles-for-loss. 14.5 sacks and three interceptions … Established career highs as senior in 2019 with 12.5 tackles-for-loss and 5.0 sacks.
