The Bears made room on their roster for outside linebacker Khalil Mack Sunday by waiving center Hroniss Grasu, a 2015 third-round draft pick from Oregon.
After starting all eight games he played as a rookie, Grasu missed the entire 2016 season with a torn ACL he sustained during training camp. He returned to appear in six games with four starts last year.
The Bears on Sunday also placed tight end Adam Shaheen on injured reserve and re-signed defensive lineman Nick Williams one day after he had been waived.
Shaheen sprained his right ankle and right foot in the Bears' preseason win over the Broncos Aug. 18 in Denver. General manager Ryan Pace said Sunday that Shaheen likely would be a candidate to return to the active roster after spending the required eight weeks on injured reserve.
Williams has appeared in 26 NFL games with the Chiefs (2014-16) and Dolphins (2016). He was selected by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2013 draft out of Samford.
