Why didn't Bears blitz more vs. Packers?

Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

I was very disappointed with the Bears' lack of pressure on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers Sunday at Soldier Field. Why didn't they blitz him more often?

My take on that is the Bears likely felt that they could get pressure on Aaron Rodgers just from their front four against a Packers offensive line that had not been performing exceptionally well in recent weeks. Secondly, the Bears still no doubt have nightmares of the infamous fourth-and-eight play late in last year's winner-take-all season finale at Soldier Field. They blitzed Rodgers on that play and he made them pay, throwing a game-winning touchdown pass to Randall Cobb. Asked why the Bears didn't blitz more Sunday, coach Marc Trestman said: "We did at times, but we have to be careful pressuring Aaron Rodgers. He is as good as it gets. Having the right pressures at the right times is something that we had  talked about. But we just couldn't get it done."

When was the last time there were no punts in a Bears game?

Steve F.
Brooklyn, New York

Sunday marked the first time there were no punts by either team in a Bears game. In fact, it was only the second time it has happened in NFL history, joining a 1992 contest between the Bills and 49ers. Sunday was the fifth time the Bears have not punted in a game. The previous four instances occurred in 1955, 1965, 1972 and last season in a 45-28 win over the Cowboys.

When was the last time the Bears started off a season with two road wins and two home losses?

Randy G.
Victorville, California

This is the first time in Bears history that they've won their first two road games and lost their first two home games. This is the 24th time they've won their first two road games. It's happened on seven occasions during the Super Bowl era in 1978, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 2006 and 2014. This is the 10th time the Bears have lost their first two home games. It's happened eight times in the Super Bowl era in 1968, 1969, 1973, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2004 and 2014.
