Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.
I was a big fan of Deon Bush at Miami and was hoping he'd get more playing time as a Bears rookie. Do you see that happening, especially with so many injuries on defense?
Safety Deon Bush's development was slowed this summer by a head and neck injury he suffered in the second preseason game against the Patriots. It forced him to miss significant portions of training camp and the preseason and he's still trying to make up for the time he missed. The fourth-round pick was inactive the first two games of the regular season and then played exclusively on special teams in a Week 3 loss to the Cowboys. Asked why Bush hasn't played on defense yet, coordinator Vic Fangio said earlier this week: "He's got to get more ironed out in what to do and how to do it assignment-wise. He missed valuable time in training camp, missed the last two preseason games, missed three or four weeks of practice. So he's got to get honed up on what to do and how to do it better and more natural and not be thinking all the time."
I know that the Bears have lost six straight to the Lions, tying for their longest skid against Detroit. What is the Bears' longest winning streak versus the Lions?
The Bears won 11 straight meetings with the Lions from 1946-51 and nearly matched that streak by winning 10 in a row over Detroit from 1984-89.
I haven't heard anything recently about Robbie Gould. Has he signed with another team?
Oak Lawn, Illinois
No, Robbie Gould has not joined another team since his release from the Bears. I was kind of surprised the Browns didn't reach out to him after their kicker, Cody Parkey, missed three field-goal attempts in an overtime loss to the Dolphins last Sunday, including a 46-yarder on the final play of regulation that would have won the game. In addition, Browns special-teams coordinator Chris Tabor worked with Gould while serving as an assistant special teams coach with the Bears.
