Nugent has appeared in 157 NFL games over 13 seasons with the Jets (2005-08), Buccaneers (2009), Cardinals (2009), Bengals (2010-16) and Cowboys (2017), converting 80.7 percent of his field-goal attempts (243 of 301) with a long of 55 yards.

Nugent, 35, was selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2005 draft out of Ohio State. He was released by the Cowboys Nov. 26 after making 7-of-9 attempts in four games as a temporary replacement for the injured Dan Bailey.

Santos hurt his groin during pregame warmups before Sunday's contest against the San Francisco 49ers. He made both extra points he attempted in the game but would not have been available to try any long field goals.

Santos made 1-of-2 field-goal attempts in his first game with the Bears a week earlier in a 31-3 loss in Philadelphia, missing a 54-yarder before hitting a 38-yarder. He was signed Nov. 20 to replace Connor Barth, who missed five of 16 field-goal tries in the first 10 games of the season.
