Roster Move: Bears ink veteran safety Gipson

The Bears on Friday bolstered their secondary by signing veteran free-agent safety Tashaun Gipson to a one-year contract.

Gipson, 29, has appeared in 112 NFL games with 104 starts over eight seasons with the Browns (2012-15), Jaguars (2016-18) and Texans (2019). He has recorded 446 tackles, 23 interceptions—three of which he returned for touchdowns—47 pass breakups and 13 tackles-for-loss.

The 6-1, 212-pounder was released by the Texans on Tuesday.

Gipson entered the NFL with the Browns in 2012 as an undrafted free agent from Wyoming. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2014 after registering a career-high six interceptions.

Last season Gipson started all 14 games he played with the Texans, compiling 51 tackles, three interceptions—one he returned 79 yards for a TD—eight pass breakups and two tackles-for-loss.

He was placed on injured reserve before Houston's wild-card playoff game against the Chiefs after aggravating a back injury and sustaining a broken wrist in the regular-season finale.

Gipson's first NFL touchdown came on Dec. 15, 2013 in a 38-31 loss to the Bears in Cleveland when he intercepted a Jay Cutler pass and returned it 44 yards.
