Trey Koziol enters his first season as Senior Director of Player Personnel with the Bears in 2026 after initially joining the club as Co-Director of Player Personnel in 2022.

Over his first four seasons with the Bears, Koziol and the personnel department have implemented strategic practices related to roster construction and the enhancement and development of football operations. As a result, Koziol and the personnel staff worked alongside the coaching staff to develop the roster to build on an NFC North Division Title and playoff victory during the 2025 season.

Ahead of the 2025 season, the Bears added four-time AP All-Pro guard Joe Thuney and Pro Bowl guard Jonah Jackson via trade. Thuney, along with right tackle Darnell Wright, whom the Bears selected in the 2023 Draft, were named to the AP All-Pro team, while center Drew Dalman earned Pro Bowl selection. As a whole, the offense allowed the third-fewest sacks in the NFL, propelling Williams to a sophomore season where he broke the Bears single-season passing record (3,942) and set an NFL record for fewest interceptions through a passer's first 1,000 career attempts (13).

Early in their tenure, the personnel staff struck a deal with the Carolina Panthers in advance of the 2023 NFL Draft, leading to a flurry of enhancements to the Bears' roster over the next three seasons. Among other assets, the return included Carolina's first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which the Bears utilized to select Williams, who would go on to set numerous club rookie records. Williams' rookie season included a string of 353 consecutive pass attempts without an interception, good for not only an NFL rookie record, but the fourth-longest single-season streak in NFL history.

Upon returning to the Chicagoland area, Koziol brought over a decade of NFL front office experience to the Bears, most recently serving as the Director of College Scouting for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021. Prior to his promotion, Koziol worked as a National Scout (2018-20) and Area Scout (2013-17) for the Chiefs. Over his nine seasons with Kansas City, Koziol and the personnel staff helped the Chiefs accumulate six AFC West Division titles, two AFC Championships and one World Championship after defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV in the 2019 season.

Before joining the Chiefs in 2013, Koziol spent four years as a Pro Scout for the Tennessee Titans (2009-12). He first began his NFL career in 2008, working as an intern for the Titans. With Tennessee, Koziol helped scout future Titans opponents and assessed talent in all professional leagues, including the NFL, the CFL and the AFL. He also helped coordinate free agent visits and tryouts and monitored NFL transactions.

A Hinsdale, Ill., native, Koziol attended Hinsdale Central High School before attending Boston College, where he played tight end from 2003-07, playing alongside General Manager Ryan Poles. Following his playing career, Koziol returned to Boston College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history, serving the football program as a graduate assistant in 2008 before joining the Titans.
