Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

How many 100-yard games did Walter Payton have in the playoffs?

Dennis P.
Schaumburg, Illinois

Walter Payton had one 100-yard playoff performance, rushing for 104 yards on 24 carries in a 23-19 upset road win over the Washington Redskins in the 1984 divisional round that remains one of my favorite games in Bears history. Sweetness also tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass on a halfback option to tight end Pat Dunsmore to help the Bears stun the defending Super Bowl champions. Payton appeared in a total of nine playoff games, rushing for 632 yards and two touchdowns on 180 carries. He came close to 100 yards on a couple occasions, gaining 93 yards on 27 attempts in a 21-0 home win over the New York Giants in the 1985 divisional round and 92 yards on 22 carries in a 23-0 road loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the 1984 NFC Championship Game.

How many former Bears are playing in the Super Bowl?

Ross A.
Pennsylvania

The Eagles have two in receiver Alshon Jeffery and cornerback Corey Graham. Long-snapper Rick Lovato entered the NFL with the Bears in 2015 as an undrafted free agent but failed to make the 53-man roster. Two other former Bears are on Philadelphia’s practice squad in cornerback De’Vante Bausby and safety Harold Jones-Quartey, and Philadelphia has signed former Bears receiver Marquess Wilson to a reserve/futures contract. The only former Bears player on the Patriots 53-man roster is backup quarterback Brian Hoyer. Tight end Martellus Bennett and linebacker Shea McClellin are both on injured reserve.

Old-time Bears fan here. Is the Karras who is on the New England Patriots any relation to former Bears player Ted Karras, who recently passed away?

Ralph K.
Bloomingdale, Illinois

Yes, Patriots offensive lineman Ted Karras is the grandson of the former Bears player of the same name as well as the great nephew of former Lions star defensive tackle and actor Alex Karras. The elder Ted Karras passed away Jan. 26, 2016 at at the age of 81. He played five of his nine NFL seasons with the Bears from 1960-64, starting at left guard for the 1963 team that beat the New York Giants 14-10 in the 1963 NFL Championship Game at Wrigley Field.
