The Bears held the NFL version of a college orientation Thursday, welcoming more than 40 pro prospects to Halas Hall for the start of rookie minicamp.
The group consisted of eight draft picks, 10 undrafted free agents, six first-year Bears players and 23 unsigned rookies who will participate on a tryout basis.
Offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo was selected by the Bears in the second round of the draft 13 days ago. But becoming a pro didn't really hit the Boston College product until Thursday.
"Seeing my locker was when it really sunk in," Trapilo told ChicagoBears.com.
Asked what was going through his mind when he arrived at Halas Hall, Trapilo said: "It's surreal. It's really here. I think this is kind of a defining moment. This is all real, this is all happening. These last few weeks have been hectic, but really solidifying it is getting here today."
The prospects posed for headshots and cycled through meetings with the athletic training, equipment, video, strength and high-performance staffs.
"It's been great, meeting the staff, getting to kind of feel my way around the building," said seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai, a running back from Rutgers. "It's a big facility, but it's been great. People are welcoming and I'm excited to work with them."
The NFL hopefuls entered Halas Hall through a hallway that's lined with the names and numbers of the 14 players who have had their jersey numbers retired by the Bears.
"That was super cool," Trapilo said. "What a great city, what a great history, great culture, great program. I'm super excited to be here."
"Just walking through that and seeing the legacy of the players, the greats that have played here, is special," Monangai added.
"That's legendary right there," said fifth-round selection Zah Frazier, a cornerback from Texas-San Antonio. "That's where you want your number to be."

The Bears will conduct non-contact practices Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Asked what he hopes to display on the field, Trapilo said: "Dependability is something that you can demonstrate, just knowing what you're doing. And demonstrating your play style without that physical aspect. That's to come, but you can accomplish a lot still without that."
Monangai simply wants to show the Bears "that they made the right decision."
