Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.
Do you think there will be any changes to the Bears' starting lineup for Saturday night's preseason game against the Colts?
There is one change according to the depth chart the Bears released on Tuesday: Rookie fifth-round pick Adrian Amos has leapfrogged second-year pro Brock Vereen at one of the safety positions. Amos is an intriguing prospect. He played cornerback his first two seasons at Penn State, split time between cornerback and safety as a junior and lined up at safety last year as a senior. He's good in coverage and also brings a physical element to the secondary. It will be interesting to see how he fares against the Colts' receivers.
With Kevin White now being out for a while, what do you think about Cameron Meredith? He looked good in the first game.
Salisbury, North Carolina
Kevin White's injury certainly will open a door of opportunity for Cameron Meredith, a Chicago area kid who converted from quarterback to receiver last year at Illinois State. After a slow start in training camp, Meredith has shown a lot of improvement and he led the Bears with four receptions for 47 yards in their preseason opener against the Dolphins. If he can prove he's capable of contributing on special teams, I think he'll have a chance to earn a spot on the 53-man roster or at the very least the practice squad.
How long will the starters play in the Bears' second preseason game against the Colts?
Columbia City, Indiana
Bears coach John Fox said Tuesday that starters will play "a little longer" against the Colts than they did versus the Dolphins, so I'd say that probably means well into the second quarter. In the preseason opener versus Miami, the No. 1 offense was removed early in the second period after 15 snaps on two series, while most of the starting defense came out after one possession—a game-opening 14-play, 85-yard touchdown drive.
