What is Bears record when defense scores TD?

Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

It seems like the Bears always win when they score a touchdown on defense like they did Sunday against the Rams. Do the stats back me up on this?

Alan M.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Yes, they do. With Major Wright's 45-yard interception return for a touchdown Sunday, the Bears are now 15-2 when their defense scores a TD since 2005. Officially, they're 16-2 because the NFL counts Zackary Bowman's TD on a muffed punt he recovered in the end zone in 2008 against the Vikings as a defensive score, but I'm going with 15-2 because that obviously was on special teams.

I read in your game story that Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein booted the longest field goal in Soldier Field history on Sunday. Didn't Robbie Gould kick a longer one last season?

Jeff G.
Naperville, Illinois

Greg Zuerlein's 56-yarder Sunday was in fact the longest field goal in Soldier Field history. Robbie Gould did make a 57-yarder last season, but that was in Denver. Previously, the longest field goal at Soldier Field was Kevin Butler's 55-yarder in a 19-12 loss to the Vikings on Oct. 25, 1993. Coincidentally, Gould's longest field goal at Soldier Field also came in Sunday's game, a 54-yarder that staked the Bears to a 3-0 lead. Gould has now made his last nine field goal attempts from 50 yards and beyond, three at Soldier Field and six on the road.

I was very impressed with the defensive effort Sunday against the Rams. When was the last time the Bears held an opponent to fewer yards than they gave up to St. Louis?

Kevin A.
Appleton, Wisconsin

The 160 total yards the Bears allowed in Sunday's 23-6 win over the Rams were the fewest since they permitted 147 on Oct. 10, 2010 in a victory at Carolina by the same 23-6 score.
