What role will Adrian Wilson play?

Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

I was glad to see the Bears sign Adrian Wilson and hope he can return to the form he displayed with the Arizona Cardinals. What role do you envision him playing this season?

Roger T.
Whiting, Indiana

Given that the Bears signed safety Adrian Wilson after concluding their offseason program, his role no doubt will be determined in training camp and the preseason. On one hand, he's a five-time Pro Bowler who displayed excellent ball skills and blitzing ability during an illustrious career with the Arizona Cardinals. On the other hand, he's a 34-year-old who's coming off a torn Achilles' tendon injury that forced him to miss all of last season. I know Bears general manager Phil Emery never stops looking to bolster the roster and this is the latest example of adding depth and creating more competition. It will definitely be interesting to monitor Wilson's progress in training camp.

Who is the frontrunner to replace Patrick Mannelly as Bears long-snapper?

Glenn B.
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Right now it's pretty much a dead heat between Brandon Hartson and Chad Rempel, but that doesn't mean that one of them is assured of the job. The Bears will do their due diligence right up until and through the season to bring in the best candidates available. They are pleased with how Hartson and Rempel performed during the offseason program, but like I said, it's a fluid situation. Hartson spent part of training camp with the Bears last season, while Rempel was signed in April after spending the last 10 years in the Canadian Football League.

How many quarterbacks started for the Bears during Patrick Mannelly's career?

Ron W.
Gillette, Wyoming

During Patrick Mannelly's 16 seasons, 20 different quarterbacks started games for the Bears: Erik Kramer, Steve Stenstrom, Moses Moreno, Shane Matthews, Cade McNown, Jim Miller, Chris Chandler, Henry Burris, Kordell Stewart, Rex Grossman, Jonathan Quinn, Craig Krenzel, Chad Hutchinson, Kyle Orton, Brian Griese, Jay Cutler, Todd Collins, Caleb Hanie, Josh McCown and Jason Campbell.
