POW6

Throughout the 2026 Illinois high school girls flag football season, the Bears will recognize standout student-athletes through the Player of the Week Award, brought to you by Dunkin'. Each week, one player will be recognized for her outstanding performance on the field as well as her sportsmanship and community involvement off the field.

Schurz High School sophomore Alison Talavera received Week 6 Player of the Week honors for her strong postseason performance, helping lead her team to a shutout playoff win over Roosevelt. A standout rusher, Talavera tallied 118 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the win. Throughout the season, she has developed into a playmaker as a rusher and receiver, leading Schurz in total yards and touchdowns during the regular season.

Talavera spoke with ChicagoBears.com about how she started playing flag football, her favorite memory from her sophomore season and more.

What does winning Player of the Week from the Bears mean to you?

When the Bears came to my school that day to surprise me, I was shocked. I felt proud of myself for the accomplishment. I was really happy — I can't put it into words. But I'm really proud of myself.

When did you start playing flag football?

I started playing when I was just four years old. When I was younger, growing up in Mexico, I wanted to play flag football like my brother. He's my inspiration and why I'm playing football right now.

How has playing flag impacted your life?

Flag football has taught me responsibility and discipline and hard work, so it's been really impactful.

Do you have a favorite touchdown this year?

Yeah, the receiving touchdown from the game we played against Roosevelt in the playoffs. That was my favorite.

What's your ideal future in flag football?

My goal is to play in the Olympic Games and play professionally. Right now, I just want to keep working hard, evolving my skills and motivate more girls to play flag football.

What was your favorite moment from the season?

Probably winning the game against Von Steuben to advance in the playoffs. It was really special for me because I had a really good game. We were down by a score in the final few minutes of the game, but I caught a touchdown at the end to help us come back and win. It was a crazy game and a really great memory.
