Leadership Event raises money for education programs

United Way of Lake County hosted its exclusive Premier Leadership Event on Tuesday, March 18 at the Bears newly renovated training facility, Halas Hall. Over 100 Lake County business leaders and individuals gathered to support United Way's educational programs and initiatives that are preparing children to succeed in a changing world, and helped raise over $110,000.

United Way was honored to have special guest, George H. McCaskey, share his personal experiences as a Reading Success volunteer in Lake County schools. During his presentation, McCaskey shared his passion for reading and his hope to instill a love of reading within the kids.

Guests had the opportunity to personally support United Way's work in the community during the "Fund the Need" Paddle Raiser portion of the event, emceed by Journalist and Documentarian Bill Kurtis. About $60,000 was raised during the Paddle Raiser portion of the program. All proceeds from the event support United Way's Success By 6, Reading Success and Stay in School educational programs.

Said Kristi Long, President and CEO of United Way of Lake County. "Having our event hosted at the newly renovated Halas Hall was a key factor in our successful fundraising results.
