Chalk Talk: Who are Bears' team captains?

Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

Have the Bears selected their captains for the season yet?
Ross H.
Frankfort, Illinois

The Bears will continue to utilize a different captain in all three phases every week during the season. Their captains for Week 1 are running back David Montgomery (offense), linebacker Roquan Smith (defense) and safety DeAndre Houston-Carson (special teams). Coach Matt Nagy was asked specifically why Montgomery was selected and here's what he had to say: "There's a lot of guys I could have picked, but he's somebody that exemplifies from start to finish just everything about how the day goes. I think he's worked extremely hard to get to this point. He's being a leader out there on the field. I see it. I feel it. The guys see it. They feel it. The way we do this, picking one guy, it's hard. You wish you could pick more. But I know the guys appreciate that."

What was the Bears' record against Matthew Stafford when he played for the Lions?
Thomas P.
Illinois

The Bears were 9-11 in 20 games that quarterback Matthew Stafford started against them as a member of the Lions from 2009-20. In those contests, Stafford passed for 5,440 yards with 32 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. The 23 picks are his most against any team. Stafford had a monster game the last time he played the Bears, throwing for 402 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in a 34-30 comeback win last Dec. 6 at Soldier Field.
