The Chicago Bears have named defensive lineman Andrew Billings as the team's recipient of the 2025 Ed Block Courage Award. This annual honor recognizes a player from the club who embodies the qualities of Ed Block: courage, compassion, commitment and community service.

Billings will be honored at the Ed Block Courage Award Luncheon on Wednesday, March 11, from 12:30–2:30 p.m. at Manzo's Banquets in Des Plaines, Ill. The luncheon benefits Maryville Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families in need. Proceeds from the luncheon will fund scholarships for high school, college and vocational education, supporting the organization's mission to provide brighter futures for vulnerable youth.

The Ed Block Courage Award was established in Baltimore in honor of Ed Block, the former head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts. Block and his wife devoted their lives to helping children in distress as foster parents and advisers, inspiring the foundation's mission to support vulnerable youth. Today, 32 Courage Houses affiliated with NFL teams continue that mission as the Ed Block Courage Awards celebrate their 48th year.

Billings was selected through a team vote organized by the Bears athletic trainers in collaboration with player representatives and team captains. The recognition highlights his leadership, perseverance and dedication on and off the field. Teammates and coaches consistently recognize Billings as a respected presence in the locker room.

Originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, Billings has built a reputation as a dependable force along the defensive line throughout his NFL career. Since joining the Chicago Bears in 2023, he has been a key contributor to the team's defensive front, bringing physicality, discipline and veteran leadership to the unit.

Off the field, Billings has earned recognition for his dedication to community service and mentorship. In 2024, he was selected as the Chicago Bears' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, the league's most prestigious honor recognizing players for their impact in the community. The nomination reflected his continued commitment to using his platform to create meaningful opportunities for young people and uplift families in need through his Billings Family Find-A-Way Foundation.

Over the past several years, Billings has led initiatives focused on education, mentorship and youth development. His efforts have included hosting youth football camps, providing classroom mini grants for teachers and supporting mentorship programs designed to help students navigate challenges both in and out of school. He has also championed literacy and school engagement through initiatives such as his Bikes & Books drive, which rewards students with bicycles, books and school supplies while encouraging strong attendance and a love for reading. Through these programs and ongoing outreach, Billings has remained committed to strengthening communities and empowering the next generation.

Through his leadership, perseverance and service, Billings exemplifies the spirit of the Ed Block Courage Award.
