Prior to every Bears game this season, we ask a panel of experts one question to test their clairvoyant powers. The panel consists of ChicagoBears.com writers Larry Mayer and Nathan Smith; former Bears players Alex Brown, Patrick Mannelly and Jim Miller; and one guest celebrity.
This week's question is: How many receiving yards will Allen Robinson II compile Sunday against the Lions? Robinson has led the Bears in that category for nine straight games with 123, 101, 90, 53, 70, 87, 81, 43 and 74 yards.
Our guest celebrity this week is former Bears receiver Marcus Robinson, who spent five seasons with the team from 1998-2002, setting a franchise single-season receiving record that has since been broken with 1,400 yards in 1999.
Larry Mayer, ChicagoBears.com
Prediction:Â Allen Robinson will have 78 yards receiving against the Lions.
Comment:Â The Bears will have more success with their ground game (and hopefully will have the lead in the second half), which will make them less reliant on the passing game and limit Robinson's production. But the Bears' No. 1 receiver will still catch a short touchdown pass from Mitchell Trubisky.
Nathan Smith, ChicagoBears.com
Prediction:Â Allen Robinson will have 105 yards receiving against the Lions.
Comment:Â History tells us two things: Mitchell Trubisky plays his best against the Lions and Allen Robinson is Trubisky's favorite receiver. Expect Robinson to have a big game.
Alex Brown, former Bears defensive end
Prediction:Â Allen Robinson will have 115 yards receiving against the Lions.
Comment:Â The Lions pass defense is in the bottom third of the league and with the number of targets Robinson receives week-in and week-out regardless of who's at quarterback means you can expect a big day from him.
Patrick Mannelly, former Bears long-snapper
Prediction:Â Allen Robinson will have 117 yards receiving against the Lions.
Comment:Â In the last three games the Lions have played, the opposing leading receiver has had 171, 127 and 95 yards. Robinson will go over 100 yards with 117.
Jim Miller, former Bears quarterback
Prediction:Â Allen Robinson will have 115 yards receiving against the Lions.
Comment:Â Robinson will have seven receptions for 115 yards and one touchdown. The Lions secondary is depleted. Their first-round pick, cornerback Jeff Okudah, has been inconsistent with no pass rush and has been in and out of the lineup due to injury.
Guest celebrity: Marcus Robinson
Prediction: Allen Robinson will have 126 yards receiving against the Lions.
Comment: Robinson is an athletic, big target who, when given the chance consistently, makes big plays. I think Detroit will make the Bears throw the ball to win the game.
Recap of last week: Cordarrelle Patterson's longest kickoff return last Sunday night against the Packers was 21 yards. ChicagoBears.com writer Nathan Smith came the closest among our panel members by predicting 25 yards.
