With the Bears wearing their 1940s throwback jerseys Sunday when they host the Jets, all current players were asked to name their all-time favorite former Bear.

Devin Hester was the most popular selection, earning 16 votes. Walter Payton was second with nine, followed by Charles Tillman (5) and Brian Urlacher (4). Others who received multiple votes—all with two—were Richard Dent, Mike Ditka, Olin Kreutz and Julius Peppers.

The 16 players who chose Hester were Allen Robinson II, Joshua Bellamy, Anthony Miller, Taylor Gabriel, Kevin Toliver II, Kyle Fuller, Sherrick McManis, Marcus Cooper Sr., Bryce Callahan, Adrian Amos Jr., Eddie Jackson, Trey Burton, Javon Wims, Ben Braunecker, Daniel Brown and Jonathan Bullard.

Burton grew up in Florida watching Hester star at the University of Miami. "He was electric," Burton said. "You never knew what he was going to do. It was similar with all the greats—LeBron [James], Kobe [Bryant], [Michael] Jordan. You never knew what he was going to do and if that was going to be a special night. He just had that ability."

Jackson also followed Hester while growing up in south Florida. "He was explosive and very fun to watch," Jackson said. "He was one of the best players I've ever seen with the ball in their hands on special teams."

The nine players who chose Payton were Cody Parkey, Mitchell Trubisky, Prince Amukamara, Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen, Benny Cunningham, Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Michael Burton and Sam Acho.

Rookie inside linebacker Roquan Smith, who won the Butkus Award as the best college linebacker in the nation last year at Georgia, selected Dick Butkus. Smith first met Butkus last year when the Bulldogs were in California preparing for the Rose Bowl.

Asked why he chose Butkus as his favorite former Bears player, Smith said: "His style of play is the main thing; his tenacity, the way he played the game. I wasn't born [when Butkus played]. It was just more so watching highlights and the way he played the game each and every down and from hearing other legends speak about him and just how his name carries so much weight."
