Bears running back Kyle Monangai returned to practice on a limited basis Friday for the first time since injuring his toe and thumb in a Week 4 win over the Jets.
The second-year pro, who has missed the last four games, is listed as questionable for Sunday night's home contest against the Buccaneers.
Speaking to reporters before Friday's practice, coach Ben Johnson said that Monangai was "getting better."
"Each injury is a little bit different," Johnson added, "and you try to get a timeline, an approximation of what you think it could be, and some guys come back a little bit sooner, some guys take a little bit longer. Those toe injuries, those can be fickle at times, and that's what this one's proved to be."
Two other Bears are questionable after being limited in practice Friday: cornerbacks Tyrique Stevenson (thumb) and Malik Muhammad II (toe).
After being listed on the injury report earlier in the week, left tackle Theo Benedet (shoulder), defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (groin) and linebacker D'Marco Jackson (ankle) were all full participants in Friday's practice and were not given injury designations.
Benedet played all 70 offensive snaps in Monday night's 34-17 win over the Seahawks in Seattle.
"He ended up going to the training room after the game," Johnson said. "I wasn't even aware during the game that he was feeling something. A lot of those guys, things will pop up over the course of the game, and your adrenaline helps get you through the rest of it, and I don't even know until we get on the plane or something like that that we're dealing with some stuff."
Johnson never doubted that Jarrett would play Sunday night versus Tampa Bay.
"He's feeling some things as well," the Bears coach said. "When you get to the halfway point of the season, everybody that's been playing, they're dealing with something at this point. Grady's tough. I know he wants to be out there, and he knows how big this one is for us."
The Buccaneers have only two players with injury designations: outside linebacker Yaya Diaby has been ruled out with a knee injury, while receiver Emeka Egbuka (foot) is questionable but expected to play after being a full participant in practice Thursday and Friday.
