Roster Moves: Bears sign six free agents

The Bears on Monday signed the following six players, all of whom participated in last week's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis:

Veterans

Freddie Swain, receiver (6-0, 199)

Has appeared in 37 NFL games with 10 starts for the Seahawks (2020-21), Broncos (2022) and Dolphins (2022), catching 42 passes for 576 yards and six touchdowns … Was selected by Seattle in the sixth round of the 2020 draft out of Florida … Played in all 33 games his first two seasons with the Seahawks, catching 38 passes for 502 yards and six TDs … After being waived by Seattle as part of final cuts in 2022, he appeared in three games with the Broncos and one with the Dolphins … Spent part of last season on Miami's practice squad.

Tommy Sweeney, tight end (6-5, 255)

Was selected by the Bills in the seventh round of the 2019 draft out of Boston College … Played in 24 games with four starts for Buffalo in 2019 and 2021-22, catching 18 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown … Sat out the 2020 season after developing myocarditis as a result of having COVID-19 … Signed with the Giants in 2023 but was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list after collapsing during a training camp practice as a result of "a medical event."

Rookies

John Jackson, receiver (6-1, 215)

Appeared in 41 games the past four seasons at USC (2020-22) and Nevada (2023), catching 40 passes for 309 yards … Close friend and former USC teammate of Bears first-round draft pick Caleb Williams … Bulk of Johnson's production in college came at Nevada last year, when he caught 35 passes for 267 yards … His father, John Jackson, was a receiver who appeared in five games with the Bears in 1996 after playing five years of minor league baseball.

Leon Jones, cornerback (6-1, 195)

Appeared in 32 games with 19 starts the last three seasons at Arkansas State, compiling 63 tackles, one interception and 21 pass breakups … Last season made a career-high eight starts … Transferred to Arkansas State after playing two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College … Attended North Forrest High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., where he passed for 1,249 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 822 yards and 9 TDs on 98 carries as a senior.

Dashaun Mallory, defensive tackle (6-1, 275)

Appeared in 31 games the past four seasons at Michigan State (2020-22) and Arizona State (2023), registering 91 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 15.0 tackles-for-loss, five pass breakups and two fumble recoveries … Most productive year came at Arizona State in 2023, when he produced 48 tackles, 2.0 sacks and 10.0 tackles-for-loss in 12 games … Grew up in the Chicago area, graduating from Bolingbrook High School.

Paul Moala, linebacker (6-0, 229)

Appeared in 48 games with 23 starts the past five seasons at Notre Dame (2018-21), Idaho (2022) and Georgia Tech (2023) … Registered 60 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 7.0 tackles-for-loss and four interceptions in 12 games at Idaho in 2022 and 65 tackles, 4.0 sacks, 11.0 tackles-for-loss and three forced fumbles in 13 contests last season at Georgia Tech … Graduated from Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind., near South Bend.
