Roster Moves: Chicago Bears activate Edmunds, elevate Alexander

The Chicago Bears on Saturday announced that the club has activated linebacker Tremaine Edmunds from Reserve/Injured; Designated for Return.

Chicago has also elevated wide receiver Maurice Alexander from the practice squad for Saturday night'sgame against the Green Bay Packers. Per NFL regulation, standard elevations revert back to the practice squad following the game.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Edmunds is in his eighth NFL season and third as a member of the Chicago Bears (2023-25). Edmunds' four interceptions this season are tied for the third-most by any linebacker in the NFL this season. Edmunds' nine INTs since joining the Bears in 2023 are the most among all linebackers in the league, as his14 career interceptions are tied for the second-most among all active NFL linebackers. Since entering the league as a first-round selection (16th overall) by the Buffalo Bills in 2018, Edmunds has started all 116-career regular-season games played, adding eight postseason starts and games played, all with Buffalo. Edmunds, who was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019 and 2020, has amassed 877 total tackles (534 solo), including 8.5 sacks, as well as his 14 INTs, including one returned for a touchdown, and four forced fumbles in the regular season. Last season, Edmunds reached 100 career games played, becoming the youngest player in NFL history to register 100 career NFL appearances. A native of Danville, Va., Edmunds prepped at Virginia Tech (2015-17), earning First-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors following his final season of action for the Hokies (2017).

Alexander has spent the entirety of the 2025 regular season on Chicago's practice squad. Since entering the league as a free agent with the Detroit Lions in 2022, Alexander has appeared in seven games, all with Detroit (2022-24). In the 2025 preseason, Alexander totaled nine receptions for 71 yards (7.9 avg.) and one receiving touchdown for the Bears. Prior to joining the Lions in 2022, Alexander spent the 2022 USFL season with the Philadelphia Stars, earning All-USFL honors as a return specialist. A native of Florida City, Fla., Alexander prepped at Florida International (2016-19), appearing in 37 career games. After starting his career as a quarterback at FIU, throwing for 687 yards and two touchdowns, Alexander moved to wide receiver, totaling 65 receptions for 772 yards (11.9 avg.) and six receiving scores over his final two seasons. Alexander was named First-Team All-Conference USA (Special Teams) following the 2018 season after leading the conference in punt return yards and punt return touchdowns.
